I installed this os and much to my surprise it didn't work for me.   I've installed Pclinux before and when I attempt to click on any application it takes me back to the login screen.   

So I think it's a video problem so I tried console login to fix the problem. I entered the command (xorgconfig) to configure the video and it wasn't installed on the system. As I've stated before clicking on any application returns to the login screen.

It wasn't a big deal as all of my configured linux os are stored on a partition. On this version of Pclinux I didn't have the shutdown issue as in the past. Meaning it shutdown normally without pushing the power button to turn off the computer.

Did the md5sums match on the download? Did you burn the CD at its slowest speed? Did you run Media Check from the liveCD boot options?

Is that a single core cpu? Pentium? Centrino? Or is it dual core?
Please provide more info.

The Intel video driver is included on the liveCD. Check the video setting while running from the CD and compare to the installed settings.

I've burned many Pclinux cds and never had a problem. When attempting to open anything it returns to the login screen. I think I'll just wait for the finished product. How can I check the video driver setting?

I can't check against the installed settings because I can't open "Configure your Computer".  After installation the desktop loads and when I attempt to open any application it returns to the login screen. That's all I can do!

That isn't the same as burning the CD at its slowest speed. Click on "Auto" and select the slowest speed shown.

It sounds to me like X is crashing.

If it's video related, try to open a terminal, or boot into "safe" mode and use "video" to set things up.

Run Media Check on the CD. If the CD media you used has errors/faults, it will not pass.

You should always set your burner to its slowest possible speed to get the best possible burn. Auto will not use the slowest speed.

On the liveCD, if it has passed media check, open PCC. Check that your video card is detected and is using the correct driver. If all is correct, install again. Be sure you choose to format both root and home partitions. If you have data in home that you want to keep, you should back it up.

I now burn my cds & dvds at the slowest speed, not auto. I don't think the speed is
 causing the problem! Pclinux used to auto configure video cards and it appears now it's geared for the newer video cards unlike mine(Intel 82845G).  The older versions of Pclinux work with my card but the newer versions of Pclinux don't.   I even tried using safe mode and vesa and this didn't work.

In fact I couldn't find any way to configure my video card using "xorgconfig" because it's not on the newer versions. In some newer versions after 2008 it came with video utilities not included with these versions. I explained what happened when I clicked on an application would simply take me back to the login screen.

I do believe it's a video problem but don't know how to solve it outside of buying a newer video card/computer.  Maybe others will come forward and express their concerns too. I like the new 2010 Kde version but I can't use it on my computer. If somebody knows how to fix this problem I'd appreciate it!

That's an Intel 845 chipset (845G with integrated grafx).  I'm also running the LXDE version, and video support for this chip should be there.  Run the LiveCD, and open PCC, that video chip should appear as "Intel 810 or later".  I know this doesn't solve your problem, but a little extra info can't hurt - good luck!

Thanks for the reply!      At one time I was able to get into the Pcc and change the setting to the one in your reply.   After that I arrived at the command prompt and numerous x-server error messages. I've installed many Pclinux distros and by far even though this one doesn't work Pclinux is still #1.
