« on: April 21, 2010, 04:47:46 PM »
similar problem I am having as before in beta2 release , latest pclos final release live cd cannot detect my laptop HP athlon 2 x 3200 64 ATI rodeon mobility 4200 graphics card.
<<Same as before my older PIII compaq desktop can boot live CD with intel 98210 32 MB graphics card  (slow but OK)>>.

Live cd passed iintegrity check, I can boot gui in VESA mode from live cd...but I cannot boot live CD fully, b/w boot console screen hangs up "login tty1""  during booting.
Any ideas, advise?
Thanks,
Norm

Hi There

Try this:

At the boot menu, highlight the first option and press F6 and choose Safe Boot.
It will automatically choose option 2 on the menu after step 1 above.
Highlight Option 1 again an hit enter.
It will now boot up without ATI Graphics Driver.
Install Pclinuxos onto your harddrive and reboot.
ATI Driver will be installed and used.
Go into Setup My Computer and configure Graphics, Screen Size.
Setup 3D.
Reboot
All should be working.

Hope this helps. ;)

Thanks for the tip, but no luck...
I followed the steps you recommended, it still does not boot graphic desktop, same before the black and white console screen hangs up at " .... tty1.... local host login "
The only way I boot graphics screen is from VESA mode.
Thanks for your help,
Norm

I have been unable to login to the regular graphics mode since 2009. I have ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard. Either kernel panic (2009) or blank screen with non-blinking cursor just after "Starting graphical desktop  ........ "

Only way forward is as suggested Safe Mode. But this time I am unable to get ATi graphics (HD4670) even after installation.

Let us hope somebody accidentally discovers what is wrong and helps us.

I put up a discussion on this in the Software Discussion forum. These ATI chips aren't yet supported in Xorg. You must go to the ATI site and download the Linux driver (82MB). It's easy to install from a terminal. But first, go ahead and install 2010 and select to use the vesa option so you can get a GUI. Then, after you've rebooted and have a desktop, network, etc., download and install the driver. It worked flawlessly for me.
Using Linux for over 18 years and still counting.

I found a slightly better option than VESA Generic. It is Xorg/Vesa.
