All, Yes I want to run vmWare server on 2010 that's something I have been doing since v 0.92 (if memory serves) on pcLinuxos, I am currently running it on 2009.2 on my laptop, without issues.
Virtualbox does not seem to be a real solution for me as I need to start the VM in vmware first to remove the VMware drivers before they display anything in vb. and I have got more than a dozen VMs all setup with various OSes and versions that I use for testing, restarting all that from scratch in VB is not really appealing at this point in time. I'd much rather run Vmware : being a server I can also serve a handful of remote clients, something I don't believe VB can do (but I could be wrong)
Back to my problem, the issue is compiling the vmware local drivers (all to do with networking AFAIU) on 2.6.32 (I tried regular, .bfs and .pae kernels); there are a few patches I could find on the Internet but none fit PCLos or the exact version of vmware server; I tried patching manually the source code, but I am only pushing the issue a step further.
