>Riki,

from here:

Creative    215    0x041e    0x4053    Creative Live!Cam VideoIM       Vc301p    GC303    Yes    jpeg    spca5xx/LE gspca v4l1/v4l2

IIRC gspca is included in kernel since 2.26. or 2.27 on. And as you can see by the product  and vendor ID your webcam is not supported. Sorry. When possible, just buy a new one [go for HD. Maybe something like this] ;)

Thanks Coffeetime. I've sent another email to Creative asking if any progress is being made for a driver. I'll bookmark your link just in case I feel the need to invest in another webcam. I had to scroll down the page to see Linux mentioned, looks like an afterthought!  ;D

Can't find them in Synaptic. I guess you're using older kernel [like 2.6.26/2.6.27] or something doesn't get loaded correctly. Which kernel do you use? Please, focus on KDE. Open Konsole, copy/paste and post back:

Code: [Select]
uname -r
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/modprobe.preload
I checked my integrated webcam and it's using uvcvideo. I'm using kernel 2.6.33.2-pclos1.pae. I also checked in /lib/modules/ and the most of the drivers are already included in kernel.

Drivers:
/lib/modules/2.6.33.2-pclos1.pae/kernel/drivers/media/video/gspca/
/lib/modules/2.6.33.2-pclos1.pae/kernel/drivers/media/video/uvc/

Edit: I'm using KDE 4.4.2

I just posted a package suggest for 4vl2ucp, which gives you access to alot of setting for web-cams using the uvcvideo module. It may help you. It did with mine. ;D
MSI K9N2 Sli Platinum Motherboard
Athlon 64 4800+
XFX GTS 250 Video Card
Gemin II Cpu Cooler W/Dual 120mm Fans

Why not??

Hello,
I have the same issue with webcams working in PCLinuxOS 2009 but not in 2010.
In PCLinuxOS 2009 I was using the 2.6.26.8.tex3 kernel with KDE 3.5.10, and the module gspca  is loaded in the kernel at boot time
The messages at boot time indicate this occurs and ignores the driver installed from the repository which was used by an earlier kernel I have installed. The webcam works in this setup.

In PCLinuxOS 2010 I am using the 2.6.32.11-pclos2.bfs with KDE 4.4.2  as provided by a new install.I notice the module loaded in this kernel appears to be different. The module loading are now

gspca_zc3xx            41883  0
gspca_main             18207  1 gspca_zc3xx

I notice that there are two items referred to by lsmod and also gspca_main is used by gspca_zc3xx

With lsusb both kernel/KDE installations list my webcam device the same.
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046d:08a2 Logitech, Inc. Labtec Webcam Pro

I assume it is the changes to the kernel modules loaded at boot time, that are causing the issues webcams that formerly used gspca alone, are now encountering.

With PCLinuxOS 2009 the module is listed as ‎gspca in PCC/hardware whereas in PCLinuxOS 2010 it is shown as just zc3xx

I don't think a separate module from the repository is available any longer, and will the kernel not just ignore it even if it was.
I guess it needs someone with the skills necessary to modify the module loaded in the kernel.

If there's a harder way to do something I'll probably find it.

don't hijack Jag's topic. Not fair. We started with HP webcam, than with Creative and now with yours. It's impossible to help. Please start your own topic. Thx.

Hello,
I was only drawing attention to the gspca module which I think is at the core of Jag's topic. The branding of the web cam is irrelevant. The module used by the webcam is the issue as far as I am aware.gspca is/was used by numerous webcams, so I would assume the issue would apply to them as well.

Thanks coffeetime for persisting efforts.
The required information from my PCLOS2010-KDE4.4.2 installation (where the webcam is not working) is given below.
Quote
[j@localhost ~]$ uname -r
2.6.32.11-pclos2.bfs
[j@localhost ~]$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
blacklist ssb

blacklist ssb
[j@localhost ~]$ cat /etc/modprobe.preload
# /etc/modprobe.preload: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file should contain the names of kernel modules that are
# to be loaded at boot time, one per line.  Comments begin with
# a `#', and everything on the line after them are ignored.
# this file is for module-init-tools (kernel 2.5 and above) ONLY
# for old kernel use /etc/modules
fuse
raw1394
sbp2
ohci1394

evdev
[j@localhost ~]$

Also checked that folders
/lib/modules/2.6.32.11-pclos2.bfs/kernel/drivers/media/video/gspca/
/lib/modules/2.6.32.11-pclos2.bfs/kernel/drivers/media/video/uvc/
are present here.

Should I try installing kernel 2.6.33.2-pclos1.pae in PCLOS 2010-KDE4.4.2 to make work the webcam as it is working in
PCLOS 2009.2-KDE4.3.4 with kernel 2.6.26.8.tex3 or tex4?

My hardware is Intel core 2 duo 1.86 GHz.2X2 GB ddr2  667 MHz,i946GZIS with IGMA3000 & 19" wide screen LCD.
Presently 3.2 GB out of 4GB memory is utilized, but I never exceed 1.5 GB and not much inclined to install & use virtual box.

Hi all.....
My HP webcam is working in  cheese 2.30.0-1pclos2010 on PCLinuxOS 2010-KDE  !!!
It is not working in wxcam 1.0.4-1 pclos 2010 and skype_static 2.1.0.81-1pclos2010.
Initially I avoided to install cheese as I wanted to use  purely kde and avoided to install libgweathew of 16.5 MB which cheese requires,
but to test I installed it today .
Now my question is should I try to install 'skype-2.1.0.47-2pclos2009.i586' on PCLinuxOS2010-KDE or it will break the system?
Can the reaper gang make available the working package 'skype-2.1.0.47-2pclos2009.i586' for 2010 release as 'skype_static 2.1.0.81-1pclos2010' is not working for few persons (mentioned in earlier post)?
Thanks all & especially coffeetime for the help.

Installed 'skype-2.1.0.47-2pclos2009.i586' in PCLOS 2010-KDE 4.4.2,but yet instead of video it shows only green screen.
Will upgrading the present kernel '2.6.32.11-pclos2.bfs' will help me?
If so,to which kernel I should upgrade?
