Right click on the desktop and choose Folder View Activity Settings, if you're use the KDE version - don't know about the rest, but probably similar

There is also an application ("wally" i think) in the standard KDE4 install that will allow you to create a slideshow of wallpapers for sources like flicker, picassa, etc.
