PC button menu list is at top of screen. <solved>
« on: April 21, 2010, 05:13:55 AM »
Not sure what happened here. When I first installed 2010,  The menu which appears when I click on the PC button appears at the top of the screen [as opposed to directly above the button]. When I updated via synaptic, It acted normally. Then after returning to the machine it started up again. Not sure what i did or did not do, any help would be appreciated.

Hi chow-stl,

You could try removing it and replacing it with a new one - may work.

Thanx for the prompt reply, but still the same thing. I have not seen any other posts reporting this prob, so it has to be something particular to my configuration.

Okay, how about right clicking on the menu and selecting "Switch to Kickoff Menu Style"

Once you've done that log out and back in again (Not a full reboot :-)

And then do the reverse and select "Switch to Classic Menu Style"

Still happening. One peculiarity I just know noticed is that when i mouse over any of the large icons (pc, show the desktop, and device notifier) as well as the desktop switcher,  the tool-tip highlights are at the top. However, when i mouse over icons in the quick launch applet the tool-tip highlights are at the bottom, except for the quick launch icons in the bottom [of three rows] row of the quick launch applet, they appear at the top. This is indeed a tough bug to squash. [at least for me].

Just guessing, try to set the panel to the top of the screen, right click on the panel>panel options>panel settings then drag the screen edge button to the top, see what happens, you can drag it back to the bottom

Thanx for the input macuira. Tried as you suggested, but no dice. I wonder if maybe it is an x-org but. I would not know, but it could possibly be. I know that before this started to happen, I had downloaded some of the lxde desktop via synaptic. Perhaps that is the culprit. I will uninstall all references to lxde from my box and see if that changes anything.

Edit: Just removed all lxde files, nothing has changed.

OK, I am STOOOPID!!!! As it is, it was just that the panel height was not tall enough, and that was causing all the bottom buttons seated at the bottom of the monitor to direct the tool tips to the top of the screen. Silly me. Thanx everybody for their help and input.

I was scratching my head on this one. I couldn't get my menu at the top no matter how I tried. Thanks for the knowledge. I can do it at will now. LOL
