my understanding is that it is a completely new install, so you need to back up /home before you do it.

Hi ponchuk,

You should consider backing up all your data onto another drive/partition or CD/USB (somewhere safe anyway)  then do a new fresh install.

Some users are doing the clean install but keeping their /home folder in tact and re-using that again.

My personal (and this is just me) way is to backup all my data somewhere safe and then do a fresh install (during the install I format / and /home and my swap partition)

Then when I have my system up and running, only then do I move my data back over (bit by bit) to my new install. I find doing it this way minimizes problems for me (especially moving data and settings back over a bit at a time - and doing restarts/reboots inbetween - pins down any problem areas that may arise)

Touch wood this has worked perfectly for me.

In saying all that, there are umpteen other ways of doing it just as well, so you could just as easily go that route.

If you set up a separate partition for /home, only the / partition is erased. If you did not, you will need to back up your /home folder.
PCLinuxOS has no wealthy sponsors and can only survive with your donations! Don't wait it might be too late.
