Dell mini 10v keyboard problems (Solved)
« on: April 24, 2010, 06:34:04 AM »
My Dell mini is now my "everyday" computer.  Initially running KDE3.5 I've now started installing LXDE2010.

Everything seemed fine, but I've just realised that the Function keys are not working properly.  It is presumably due to the wrong keyboard setting.  The default was Generic 105(intl), obviously wrong as this little thing has only 82 keys.  I cannot see anything under Dell that has 82 keys - or generic.

F4 and F5 do work to adjust the brightness, but F4 in LXDE does not open a console when the file manager is open as it does on my other laptop.   F11 in Firefox should switch to full screen mode and in OOo bring up the style dialogue box: nothing happens in either case.  For these examples there are other, albeit less convenient, routes, but this may not always be true.

Anyone know what the correct setting is?

How does one become a hero?  By asking a lot of dumb questions apparently! I have three computers of various ages, the most powerful is a Dell Netbook 10v; each has 2 or 3 versions of PCLOS of various vintages.  Location, St John's, Newfoundland.

20 min later.  While working I noticed the Fn key down on the left.  <Fn+F11> etc does what F11 alone does on larger keyboards.

I'll leave this up in case others have the same problem.
