Full USB install for 2010?
« on: April 20, 2010, 11:19:59 AM »
I was looking at the instructions in the 11-2009 issue of PCLOS Magazine and wanted to know if somebody could update them to make it work perfectly with the 2010 release?  I am interested in a full install of a USB drive, not as a loopback or read-only device.

Thanks.  (n00b here)

The standard installer will install to USB attached drives.

Just be careful where you select to install Grub.

Sorry, I meant to say a USB flash drive.  Would that be the same instructions?  I would assume not since there was an article about it.  ??

Full installs, as opposed to running "live" from a compressed image like a CD, are covered by the standard installer.
Flash sticks generally are not considered suitable for full installs due to the wear on them by the OS activity, which is why the instructions you refer to concentrate on flash drives. "Live" running from any HDD is also achievable using the same scheme as the "Live" for flash drive --- either internal HDD or USB attached.

regards.

I installed the KDE 4 PCLOS 2010 flavor to a 4 GB USB flash drive and it works excellent, to avoid problems I disconnected the hard drive  ;)  (better safe than sorry). It is the same than install to a hard disk.

I've been using it in different machines without problems until now
