Libpng failure message in LXDE
« on: April 20, 2010, 04:27:48 AM »
I'm seeing this message very briefly flash up before the login screen appears 'libpng error read failure'.After which everything seems to boot normally.

Any ideas please?

I was getting that message with one of the betas.   Can you go into verbose mode when shutting down?

How would one go about that?

Pressing the escape key will while booting or shutting down will show all the text, verbose mode, instead of the boot graphics.

The message that was displayed for me while I was using 2010 beta 2a LXDE:

libpng error: Read error

Have you done any updates?

Strange how it disappeared.
Neal and I tried different graphics on the beta, but whatever we tried it would not go away.  I had the error message but Neal could not reproduce it.

Is this on a laptop or a desktop?

Hi ka9yhd

That message has resurfaced again.
I'm using a desktop computer. One thing to clarify,I did an md5sum check of the .iso and a media check before install.
The only difference I can see is with kernels.I have the bfs in LXDE and not in Minime and KDE 2010.

At least more are starting to see it and it shall be worked on.

During testing of the betas, I felt like I was the only one who experienced that error message.  I never saw anyone post about it and Neal could not reproduce it.

You were quite right about the message being 'libpng error: Read error' and not what I had stated in my original post so my apologies if it threw anyone but it's so rapid it was a job to read it correctly.

I'm seeing it on LXDE with ext3 filesystem.

topher,
I believe it has nothing to do with the filesystem - ext3 or ext4.

All,
There seems to be no harm coming from this error.

I thought bfs meant B filesystem, but I see that I am running pclos2.bfs. :-[

How much memory do you have on your system topher? If you have 4GB (or more) you may want to give the .pae kernel a whirl as that will "see/access" the whole 4GB.

Note, the a64 kernel is for systems with AMD CPU's but doesn't have the .pae capability
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver
