The maximum compressed image cannot exceed 4 gigs.  2.5 gigs in /home + / will compress down to about 700 mb. So maximum size of your install needs to be around 8-10 gigs for best results.  You are not going to be able to compress 15-20+ gigs of data into a 4 gig squash image.

You also need to be sure you have enough room for the remaster to be built. If necessary, specify the locations of the temp and working directories on a partition with plenty of empty space.
