HD scanner on Network
« on: April 25, 2010, 09:38:44 AM »
I have an HD Photosmart c4680 all-in-one connected by wire to an XP machine. A few days ago I installed PCLinuxOS ((LDXE) on an older Dell and easily connected to the printer. Looking for the scanner, however, returns a message that none were found. I suspect that some conformation is necessary. Can anyone help? I will appreciate it.

Suggest you try to connect the device directly to the Linux box temporarily to see if the scanner will work.

If yes then it would appear to be caused by the mode of connection.

HP devices are well supported so I expect it to work .......

hello and welcome to the forum

remote scanner access is a marvel achieved by very few persons

if i remember correctly not even on windows it goes well most of the times

the suggestion to connect it to the linux machine sounds good, at least to verify if it can work

also you can share the printer on linux to use it in windows, so you can use your lxde as a printer server

Thanks for the responses. It's encouraging to hear that network scanning is difficult; means I'm not necessarily an idiot. It's not possible because of distances between computers to switch wired connections, so I'll content myself with walking over to the hated XP machine (my wife's) when I need to scan.
