<SOLVED>mylivecd fails
« on: April 18, 2010, 01:25:33 AM »
Hi to  all,
On 3 machine:--
1...3 core amd 2Gb ram Nvidia all sata 2
3....3 core amd 2GB ram Nvidia all sata 2
3....2 core amd 4Gb ram Nvidia sata 2 + ide
On all the above machines mylivecd creates an iso without errors BUT on booting it stops at starting UDEV
The system then hangs for 180 seconds, but udev has failed so, on continuing to boot has no usb keyboard or mouse also has no graphics screen. At this time there is nothing to do but switch off.
Since udev has failed it is not possible to tell what else has not been discovered .
Your thjoughts at this time will be greatfully received.

Not sure I can help, but I'll try. In a terminal, as root, enter -->
Code: [Select]
remasterme --verbose
Be sure you've removed the previous ISO first, or this will fail.
Look for any error messages in the output and post them here, please.

Did you run bleachbit and bleachbit root before remastering? Did you review the files in /var/log to check for any current problems?

Just a thought - how "big" is the system you are making your livecd remaster from? I'm sure I read on the forum that there are limits on the size of the system being remastered
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Sony Vaio SVE1513A4ESI Laptop, Intel Core i5, 2.6GHz, 6GB RAM, 750GB, 15.6" Intel HD Graphics 4000

hello, Neal and Menotu,
The size of the system is approx 0.5GB larger than the install on all systems at this time.
We have just installed enough to get the system set up. Nothing like media players installed.
Just a bare bones working system. This as a remaster would allow me to replicate this system to other machines.
The size of the iso from all machines is approx 2GB
A query on bleachbit, how will  running this help and what is it going to do for 'mylivecd'?
I will have a look at the log files to see what they say and get back to you.. if there are any problems in that area.
But 3 systems, just set up to working. Nothing special installed, except 'draklive-install' and the remastered disks all behave the same.
ODD!!!
Will now try the 'remasterme --verbose'

Bleachbit cleans up the system -- unneeded files and such. I use it before remastering.

Hi Neal,
Here is an update.... We can create a bootable image >>if and only if<< we do not involve networks,ie nfs nfsfs etc.
However the boot disk will then only boot in no bootsplash, nolapic. mode.
We then get to a normal screen. Opening a terminal as root and typing 'draklive-install' we get the following error:..
[root@localhost root]# draklive-install
No protocol specified
[root@localhost root]# hod "new" via package "ugtk2" at /usr/sbin/draklive-install line 104.
standalone::bug_handler() called from /usr/sbin/draklive-install:104
main::display_start_message() called from /usr/sbin/draklive-install:67
main::install_live() called from /usr/sbin/draklive-install:42
What do you think we have done wrong???
This is a straight install with only draklive-install added.
the iso is just over 800MB

gezza,
Some questions:
When you downloaded 2010, did you check the md5sum? Burn the CD at the slowest speed? Run Media Check from the CD's boot menu?

Just trying to get a sense of your starting point here.

What apps did you add? What apps did you remove? Did you tweak anything?
Describe your hardware, please.

Gezza,
Lines 104, 67 and 42 are about launching the install wizard gui. This is a GTK2 application. It seems as though there a problem with your GTK2 apps / libs.
Can you launch PCC and its tools?

Which DE are you using?

You could try a reinstall of the various GTK2 libs / apps, drakxtools and the other drak apps and see if any messages are generated on install.

Hi,
Yes to all.
I do have some interesting news for you though.....
I have 1 quad core Intel machine which is a devil to install PCLinuxos, does not share samba shares with Windoze.
However IT DOES create a bootable/ installable DVD of 1.7GB.
I then tried installing this DVD on and AMD 3 core machine which would not produde a bootable/installable disk, and after installation..lo
It produced an iso, which i burned at 4x (which I burn all cd's dvd's at). this disk was then booted in the same machine and I got it re-installed.
SOOOO? the iso/DVD can be created on an Intel machine, after witch it can be installed on an AMD machine and work and produce a bootable iso image of the system.
I hope you have a long stemmed pipe to smoke this on???
Your thoughts as always greatfully received.
Gezza

Something went wrong on / with the install to your AMD machine. What that was, we may never know now.
