Live CD Won't Install

Hello All,
Can't seem to get 2010 KDE Final version to install on one of my machines. (First one I've tried outside the VM's I've been testing.) It's a 4 year old Compaq machine with 512MB's of RAM and a 1.8Ghz Sempron Chip. The Live CD boots (although really slow) and I've tried various options like safe-boot, VESA, etc to see if it made a difference. It varies a little but always ends up the same. Locked up with maybe just the mouse being left to move but won't allow any apps to run or install the system. I've tried to get a root console up to run draklive-install from the console. It usually won't even allow the console. If it does it usually stops prior to running it.
I was one of those anxious enough to have downloaded the KDE Final just a day or so before it was really final. I think Tex changed the Kernel to BFS on the final and this ISO didn't have it? Anyway, I had the 695MB image also and thought I'd give it a shot. It actually got further and I was all the way into creating my partitions before it stopped responding.
I've been running 2007 on this older machine and was anxious to blow that away and start fresh with 2010. Anyone got any ideas? Is it possible that 512MB's on a system with shared video using some just isn't quite enough to install from the Live-CD? I've looked in the BIOS and really can't tell how much video ram is being used. It's a very limited Compaq BIOS.
Also, if anyone is wondering, I did check the CD media and it's fine. I also booted it on another machine to test the Live-CD and it has no problems like this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

could well be that 512MB is not enough due to the shared memory. You could try installing the LXDE version which works fine with less RAM.

I can purchase more memory for this thing and see what happens but I was hoping not to spend the $ until I was sure it was a RAM thing. This machine is one of the several I support for my family and I really like to keep them consistent. KDE is my choice and so I'd really like to get it going on this one. I may just wait a little while and see what others are finding. I have a feeling there will be several with machines similar in specs trying to run it. Thanks.

Maybe you should check your swap partition whether it is mounted when you run the livecd. After installation it won't need that much ram.

Hardware requirements
Processor
Modern Intel or AMD processor.

Memory & storage
RAM : 512 MB minimum, 1 GB recommended.

Hard disk : 3 GB minimum, 10 GB ore more recommended if you plan to install additional software from our repository.

Video card
nVidia, ATI, Intel, SiS, Matrox, VIA.

3D desktop support requires a 3D instructions set compatible card.

Sound card
Any Sound Blaster, AC97 or HDA compatible card.

Other
CD/DVD drive required
my guess would be that 512MB on a shared memory machine would not be quite enough.

UPDATE: Well I'm thrifty (OK I'm cheap) and decided since I didn't have any RAM to throw in this machine, I would install an old PCI video card to install with and then go back to the on-board when done. Guess what. It worked! Install went flawlessly and after rebooting and removing the old card, I'm running on the shared video w/512MB just fine. It's actually pretty snappy and I'm in the process of installing Open-Office right now. Yippee! Thanks to those who attempted to help.

So it was the memory. I had tried to install PCLOS 09 on 128MB and the livecd was slow like hell (with big swap usage) but after install it was million times faster.

If thats the case, how about video drivers, how did u get it to boot... Mother board video is different then Slot video card for me.. can't see how it would work for me
