Older versions of PCLinuxOS would run on the recommended minimum RAM of 256MB. The newer 'full' versions of KDE and Gnome require more, but I have an ancient IBM NetVista workstation that sports a PIII 933 and 512MB RAM, 20GB HD, and it's running the Gnome 2010 version just fine.
I think Tex and the gang are evaluating outlining new hardware 'minimum' requirements.
EDIT: Just checked the PCLinuxOS homepage, The 'About PCLinuxOS' link does show the new minimum hardware requirements of 512MB RAM.
