Dual boot PCLinuxOS 2010 KDE4 and PCLinuxOS 2010 gnome

Could I get some tips on dual booting both the kde4 and gnome versions of PCLinuxOS 2010.
 Any help would be much appreciated  .

Both desktops can co-exist on the same install and you can select which one to use before you log in. If you have KDE4 installed you can add the gnome desktop by installing the "task-gnome-minimal" in synaptic. Once installed logout. On the login screen select GNOME in the Session Type menu, then login as normal.

As aherkey said, this is not a duel boot issue. It's simply a matter of what desktop you want to use. PCLinuxOS is PCLinuxOS. It is the same Operating System. You can in fact, install all of the desktops available and start which ever one you are in the mood for in the same manner that aherkey suggested.

What the Rudge and Aherkey have said is quite true, but I thought you were asking if you could have 2 different operating systems in 2 different partitions? So that you have e.g. kde4 in partition 'A' and gnome in partition 'B'?

I did that before. I had kde3 and lxde in different partition, one backing up the other so that in case my tweaks ruined the first one, and it could not start, i could still do other things from the second operating system until I figured out what went wrong in the first one.....to have minimal down time...... (I had /Home in partition 'C' and broken windows and glasses in partition 'D', well just to remind myself of the jagged edges out there  )

Have not got around to doing it again. But I still plan to have kde4 together with gnome. Or lxde. Or e17...Drat. Too much choice..... I might need help here

As I have experienced it (and as has been noted in numerous PCLOS Gnome reviews), running a bloated gnome desktop on top of a PCLOS KDE install is a decidedly different experience than running a clean PCLOS Gnome install.  I would imagine that the LXDE desktop suffers a lot more from KDE bloat.

I'm wondering if it would be practical to install the KDE editiion with separate / and /home partitions, install the Gnome edition on a third partition but with it using the same /home as the KDE install?

Yes. This week I did the following:
- formatted the entire drive and installed pclos on it
- so the hard drive had; sda1 (/ for pclos) sda5 (swap), sda6 (/home)
- used system rescue cd and split sda6 and created sda7
- used sda7 as / for lxde while maintaining sda6 for /home
- now both pclos and lxde share sda6 as /home

See?
Now depending on my moods, and other things, I choose! 

(finally settled on lxde.)
