Where are khelpcenter help files for KDE4 apps?
« on: April 18, 2010, 06:25:38 PM »
The file exists in the menu but there are no help files installed for the various KDE apps.
Have the KDE4 developers issued these to the various distros or aren't they updated yet?
With all the changes they have made in KDE4, it would be helpful to a lot of newbies (and oldies too)
to be able to get help re the various KDE4 apps.
You gotta have balls to play golf.

Yes, a little help file once in a while would be nice.

It might be helpful if you asked about a specific application, instead of just a general blanket statement that help is missing.

OP

I think that most people are complaining because sooo maaany help files are missing.
It's just a general thing.
If it's just one for a specific application, then they can reinstall that application, sometimes it helps. ( which I do, but still no help file )

The complaint comes from announcements that the man pages and help files are cut out on the installation CDs to save space.

So, the complaint must be seen as a general thing, not one specific app.

It is said that reinstalling kdebase4 will partially help.
Many times, there just isn't one written yet.

So, what's a man to do  ;D

Reinstall the apps that are missing the help files through Synaptic. If there is a help file, it will also be installed. Problem solved.

If there is no help file for a specific application, then there is no fix, until someone writes one. A future upgrade of that application will have the help file, once it's written. At that time; problem solved.

I just tried about a dozen applications, chosen at random, from different parts of the menu on my MiniMe installation, and all had help files available. No problem to solve;D

On top of my head

gthumbs...click on help...I get message ..could not display help
then, I went to /usr/share/gnome/help/gthumb
The help files are there in 6 languages

GQview
click on help>>>>>>>>
Firefox can't find the file at /usr/share/doc/gqview-2.1.5/html/index.html.
Go and see ....the files are ALL there

Because the path is wrong...a packager problem I suppose

I will find more for you as soon as I got time to waste

Just installed GQview, got the error, and followed the path. You are right, there is no html directory in the actual path. Opened Konqueror - Super User Mode, navigated to /usr/share/doc/gqview-2.1.5, right clicked the background, Create New --> Folder..., named it html.

From Edit menu;

Hold the Ctrl key and click the html folder to un-select it. Left click drag the closest selected file to the html folder, and choose Link Here. Problem solved.

Do the same, to fix your GQview help link, and any other you find, that has the same type problem. Make a list of which ones require this fix, then file a broken package report, listing those packages, and refer to this thread.   ;)

Ok , will do so, but only as time permits, which means.....slowly  ;D

The big problem is , that when It says...no help....I have to guess where it possibly could live, as there doesn't seem to be a standard

And thanks a lot for the help
