PalTalk Express and Firefox
« on: April 18, 2010, 10:33:06 AM »
When using Firefox 3.5.6, when I go to PalTalk Express (www.paltalk.com/express/ and click on Try PalTalk Express) it tells me "Express Install is not Support on this operating system.  To upgrade please visit Flash Player Download Center.
In Firefox when I go to Add-Ons -> Plugins I see Shockwave Flash 10.0 r42 listed.

Can anyone help me address this issue?

Thanks

Hi CliffSpier

Welcome to the forum.

Can you tell us which version of PCLinuxOS you are using. Is it the 2009.2 version?  If it is, did you know that a brand new 2010 release has just become available for download

You can try opening Synaptic, and press the  "Reload"  icon, wait for it to refresh and then look for an app named "flash-player-plugin"

Once you've found it, right click on it and select "Mark for Installation" > then press the Apply icon and wait for that to install.

If "flash-player-plugin" is already installed do the same as above but this time select "Mark for Re-Installation"

Go to FFox and retry the site.

BTW, have you got any "script"  addons (NoScript for example ?) installed in FFox as that can block access.

I just tried the site and I can gain access to it (once I've told NoScript to  "allow" access)
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.4; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.4.38bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Sony Vaio SVE1513A4ESI Laptop, Intel Core i5, 2.6GHz, 6GB RAM, 750GB, 15.6" Intel HD Graphics 4000

Thanks - I am using 2010.x.  I reinstalled the flash player plugin but I continue to get the same effect.  When I type in my user name then I start typing my password, after the first character of my password I get Adobe Crashed message.

I have seen posts on modzilla firefox forum that a user has installed an older version of FF but I am unclear how to do that.

Besides if it is a FF / Adobe problem would you expect FF or Adobe to address it?

I cant find any reference on PalTalk to this issue.

Thanks

I also had a problem with flash-player-plugin and my solution was to uninstall it - then reboot my computer
then reinstall it.

hope this helps

I uninstalled (marked for complete removal) then shut down and restart.  Same problem.  Thanks for the suggestion.
