April 13 vs. April 15 release

Are there any significant differences between the April 13th (695MB) release and the April 15th (694MB) release?  I installed the April 13th version and it is working perfectly.  Synaptic has been doing updates with no problems.

the only difference with the April 15th release is that the kernel was replaced to the default bfs-kernel, see also here.

And if you want to install and run the .bfs kernel just install it with Synaptic.

If you're unsure which kernel you currently have, open a terminal and type:

uname - a <press enter>

And that will show ya.

Update...I just read about bfs schduling and will leave my kernel in place.  Thanks for the replies.  PCLOS working perfectly here on a dual-core Pentium 3.3 Ghz, 2GB ram, Geforce 8800GT, 10,000-rpm drive.

Some people report that it speeds up there system.

The .a64 kernel = for AMD CPUs

The .pae kernel = if you have 4GB of ram memory it will see all of it (whereas the other kernels will only see approx between 3GB to 3.5GB)

Note: if you do install a new kernel you have to reboot and that reboot can take a good few minutes as it needs to do its stuff first, but after that boot times should be back to normal

I have an AMD Phenom II X3 processor with 4 gig ram.  Would changing to either the .a64 or .pae kernel be recommended?  Or is my processor still a little too new to benefit from the other kernels?

Like Menotu posted above. If you want to see all your memory and not just 3.2 - 3.5 gig than use the .pae kernel.  If that is not a big deal to you than use the .a64 kernel. No your processor in not too new to benefit from using either.

Yup - they are final 2010 releases. No more big installs, we can all just "roll" along doing Synaptic updates
