RESOLVED -- Localization doesn't change some apps' language
« on: April 18, 2010, 10:17:59 AM »
Running KDE4.
I changed the language to Hungarian, then later back to English. After logging out and back in I found that the login screen, Synaptic, Control Center, and Gimp (there may be more) didn't change back to English.
Reboot didn't help.

Did you use Addlocale to make your changes? Here's a tip. Create one user in English and another user in the language of your choice and switch between them instead of switching the languages back and forth.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

Yes.

I don't need the other language, I was just testing.

Is this language change issue a KDE quirk?

Hi,
can not duplicate this. Used addlocale to hungarian, all ok. Then addlocale again to reset to default en_US, logout, login and the login screen, Synaptic, Control Center, and Gimp, etc all is in English. How did you change the language to English? Maybe using the KDE control center, or PCC? Please try again to reset your language to en_US but using addlocale, should work.
good luck,
-p.

Guilty as charged...
I assumed 'addlocale' was only for adding a locale. Should have read the script messages more attentively.
Everything is back to normal now.
Thank you.

good to hear you're back to default. In addlocale, Reset to default en_US is a safety setting in case another localization had problems or you can no longer figure out how to come back to English, for example if you were curious to see what an Arabian desktop looks like... ;)
