HP Printer problem

Something's changed!

Out Of The Box, 2010 KDE Beta2 found my HP B109a  photosmart printer/scanner. It scanned and printed correctly, and the HP Device Manager worked.

However, with 2010 KDE final, on booting, it says that it has found my printer and has set it up. But it hasn't!

There's no printing, XSane can't find the scanner, and HP Device Manager says that 'No installed HP devices found'.

Although I can't get the printer/scanner to work, this posting is mainly to point out an apparent change between the two versions of 2010 KDE.

I've had to go back to Beta2 in order to use my printer

I'm running a b109m - I don't think there's much difference from the 'a' version. It's connected wirelessly to the router, and my machine is wired.  I went through the install, and as you did got it installed. However.... I had to "wake up" the printer by using it's touch screen before it would accept a job.  I then set up the scanner - no problem at all. I have seen this reluctance to wake up and do some work with other distro's - perhaps this printer has some human traits?
This is using the "bfs" kernel with the new KDE download (2.6.11.32-pclos2.bfs) - I didn't actually try printing with the first version that was available.

Go into the Configure your Computer -> Hardware -> Printer setup to install your printer.

'Configure your Computer -> Hardware -> Printer setup' showed that the printer was already installed and set to default. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled. Printer, scanner and HP device manager still didn't work.

Then I tried to install it using the device manager, but again nothing worked.

I am using the bfs kernel mentioned by j-retired.

As a double check, I have run Beta2 again, and everything works "out of the box".

j-retired. I have tried several ways to 'wake the printer up', but none work. I see that your printer is connected wirelessly to your router. Mine is plugged into a USB socket on the computer - the way it always is. My router is wired to the computer.

Just for information,

Over the past couple of days, I have tried everything suggested on this thread and on similar threads.

The result is the same. 2010 KDE final shows the printer being set up during booting the live CD, but when PCLinuxOS is run, there is no printer.

So, I am staying with Beta2, with which the printer works perfectly.

Just to add to this topic.  I have an HP Photosmart printer/scanner connected to a usb port and 2010 final detected it just fine.  I scanned an image and printed a test page and it is working just fine.  But I also have an HP Laserjet printer connected through a converter cable to a usb port and that printer is not detected.  It did connect and run just fine in 2009.2 but not in 2010.  Can I do anything to get this printer connected?

Just tried using the same usb port for the "not-working" printer as you suggested and it still does not detect it. In case it helps I'm using a "Prolific IEEE-1284" controller cable to connect it.  

[SOLVED] I found in another post that if you enable expert in the options tab in PCC printer setup window, you can click on "enter url" option.  I found that in doing that it listed the printer in the drop-down window allowing me to setup the printer there.
