Amarok in 2010 (solved sort of)
« on: April 16, 2010, 11:47:18 AM »
OK I am trying to keep an open mind with this version.  But it is hard.  In 2009 I could listen to many many internet radio stations.  But in 2010 I need the station's URL.  Why did that change??  Now I can not find a way to shuffle the songs in a playlist.  Anyone know how?  Anyone know of a better program to do the above two things??  Thanks for your relies.

there are six icons below the playlist, click the first one on the right and it will expand and show different options, select " random track" to play tracks in random order. The icon will change to show you what mode your playlist is under.

Thanks muungwana, for some reason I was expecting to see the list change.  Now can you solve the other complaint as easy?

Hope nobody minds if I jump in   ;)

Grandpa, download the Shoucast script from here. Then open Amarok, select Tools => Script Manager and click Install Script. Select the file you just downloaded, click OK until you can close and restart Amarok.

Open Tools => Script Manager again and activate Shoutcast using the checkmark. Now you should have the whole Shoutcast directory.

Tex couldn't include Shoutcast due to legal reasons, but it's okay to download and install it. Figures...  ::)

Hope this helps

Another neat way to do this is to open Amarock > Tools > Script Manager > Get More Scripts > enter a Search term if desired  :). In this case
Shoutcast or some portion thereof.

It took me quite a while to get used to the new Amaroc when it came out.  But after a while I realized all of the cool features are still there, just
laid out different.  Long as I can get shoutcast - belly up for blues, it's all good.  8) 8)

What a MESS!!!!!  Sound speaker button gone from the panel by the clock.  Nothing will play in amaork.  Imean nothing.  No cd, no music stored on the computer, sound is muted and can not unmute.  Tried to uninstall using synaptic and reinstall, didn't help.  About ready to get the sledgehammer.

open kmix and set again audio, if that doesn't help you can set audio again in pclinux control center

about amarok, if it is not cooperating, try the other options i mentioned, sometimes less is more

Right now I put the live c-d in.  Everything seems to be working with it.  Well the shoutcast stuff is not.  But I was wondering.  With 2010 installed do I need to do something different when updating from synaptic?

hi grandpa :-)

your sound issues are beyond the scope of this thread and i think its best if you open another thread and discuss it there. If you do, can you also mention if other audio program like xine, mplayer, xmms can produce sound?

shoutcast worked fine here ..did you follow all the instructions? can you be more specific what didnt work

it is advised to always make sure you are fully updated before asking for support. Synaptic works the same way it has always worked and you don't need to do anything differently

I should have said that it was fully updated, I learned to do that long ago.  I believe I followed instructions doing the shoutcast d/l.  When I clicked on random tracks as suggested it did that OK.  But the next track would not start.  After d/l the Shoucast script and installing them was when I saw the volume thing in the lower right panel was missing.  Also sound seemed to be muted in Amarok.  If I can't get this straightened out I may just reinstall the o/s and not "home".  You know the old Windows thing.  Thanks for everyone's reply.

(edit)  I looked again in Kmix and the volume button is enabled.  So that is not it.  But thanks.

There are some streams that appear to be playing but I'm not getting sound from them. Most streams are working fine. For some stations there are two or three streams available. Maybe trying one of the others will work?

Don't ask me how, but sound is now working.  cylverbak you are right, there are 5 different country stations listed and only one worked.  But still no little speaker in the right lower panel.  Guess I will start another thread.  Thanks to all for the help.
