Can no longer connect via wi-fi? SOLVED
« on: April 16, 2010, 08:52:52 AM »
For some reason my laptop has suddenly started refusing to connect to my router via wi-fi.
Am using WPA2-PSK with a pre-shared key. My TIVO connects using the same key, but my PCLOS laptop running PCLiniuxOS 2009.2 (KDE) suddenly no longer wants to.
If I remove the security it connects, but not when I turn it back on?
What the hell has suddenly gone wrong?

Well, I'll answer myself.
Something, somehow has obviously broken.
If I boot from the liveCD and enter the same connection details it works.
Ergo what do I need to uninstall and reinstall (bearing in mind I can't connect to the repository)?

Well you stated in your other post if you removed the security you could connect. It would be obvious that something in the security is messed up. Have you doubled checked your security key? Perhaps it is somehow corrupt. Encryption add another level of complexity to the basic wireless. By removing it you have shown that the basic wireless is indeed functioning.

I can't be bothered stuffing around. I think I'll just cut my losses and reinstall, maybe 2010 Beta2?

If you write service network restart are there any error messages?

Why would you want to install 2010 Beta 2 when the 2010 (kde) final  is out ?

Also, there is no more support for Beta's

And as YCT mentioned it does appear to be security related.

You're kidding???
I just spent two days downloading the Beta from a torrent.
Can someone post a link to a torrent containing the final version please?
Just left my lappy at home downloading Open Office too. Guess that means I'm going to have to do that over again as well?
On a brighter note I am able to conntec to my network again with Beta 2. I don't know what the problem was but sometimes it just easier to cut your losses and start again (or so I have found).
Also on a brighter note, after backing up my Home drive I discovered that I could leave the current file structure intact. Install allowed my to reformat only the partition where the operating system is installed leaving my home partition alone.
I know some people recommend a clean slate install but it doesn't seem to have screwed up anything?
I saw the link in the above post but it is not labelled as 2010 (or did I miss something)? Rightly or wrongly I assumed it was 2009.2, went to the distrowatch page and download the Beta2 from there.
Bugger!!!

Installed 2010. Reinstalled Open Office. Install let me keep home drive intact. Can connect to my network once more. Problem solved.
The long solution can sometimes be the shortest one too!
