Updated Flash
« on: April 15, 2010, 11:05:33 PM »
Flash needs to be updated to a newer version, or at least that's what Youtube says.   :)  Whenever I try to watch a video, it tells me I need to upgrade flash.  It does the same thing for both Konqueror and Firefox.

If you are using minime you need to install flash from the repo.

Or much quicker, install task-multimedia to install every codec and plugin that you'll need. "_

I do not have this problem with YouTube. However, during beta testing, I got a similar message from the BBC web site, and was surprised to see that the version in Synaptic was the version they told me to get! I got the same error in both Firefox and Chromium. Only from BBC, not YouTube.

After scratching my head for a while (that part is voluntary  ;D), I closed Firefox/Chromium, went into Synaptic and marked Flash for re-installation. After re-installing, I tried again in Firefox and it worked.

Very odd, but see if it works.

 ???
PCLinuxOS has no wealthy sponsors and can only survive with your donations! Don't wait it might be too late.

Dave, I attempted your suggestion.  These are the packages for flash that I found in synaptic.

flash-player-plugin
libswfdec0.4
swfdec-mozilla

I re-installed all those, but still not able to view youtube videos.  Am I overlooking a package?

I removed those and still have the issue.  It's pretty much the same as davecs mentioned.  The version of flash instsalled from synaptic is the same version they are telling me to upgrade to.  Very weird indeed.

I'm not having trouble with youtube, but I can't play flash games at games.adultswim.com.

Okay, here's an update.  I had the idea to go in FireFox and clear all cookies.  After that, youtube videos now play in FF.  Strangely enough though, I still get the upgrade message when using konqueror.  I cleared the cache and cookies in it as well.  Progress.

Are you using an old home from another distro or something? For Konqueror, Settings, Configure Konq , Plugins and have it scan for plugins again.

No, I wanted to start fresh so I backed up all my data, re-created my partitions as ext4, formatted them and installed.  I tried to have Konqueror re-scan for plugins last night but it seems ed get stuck at 80%.  It was late though, so maybe I wasn't patient enough.  I'll give it another shot.

Hi cirehawk

I thought I'd try a Konq "scan for plugins" on my system for you, and yup, mine stops at 80% as well (Scanning for plugins thermometer bar gets to 80% and gets no further)

HTH

Note: I have no problems with YouTube in FFox or Konq  (this was just an "assist" )

Okay, I just did a clean install of PCLinuxOS 2010, When I goto Face Book and try to play Farmville, says you need to update your version of flash. It also tells me to upgrade to 10.0.45.2, which is installed. I did a complete uninstall and reinstalled it. Farmville still does not load? Also deleted cookies? wasn't much there, just installed the OS. In past versions of PCLinuxOS flash has always worked. Help!? That is using Firefox btw. In Konqueror Farmville loads okay, go figure.

I haven't had this problem with 2010 but had it with 2009. My not approved by management fix was to install directly from the Flash site. Same version number but the one from Synaptic didn't work even after a reinstall.
