Question about Nvidia settings and Xorg.conf
« on: April 15, 2010, 10:22:10 PM »
Largely for my own peace of mind I just wanted to confirm that the actual display settings are those written to xorg.conf by the Nvidia-settings tool and that those will override other settings, especially as regards screen refresh rate.  I have a fairly rare widescreen CRT monitor that I could not currently afford to replace, and frying it with a video misconfiguration would floor me.

My main concern is that some of the other system settings panels show weird display resolutions, like 50hz, but all indications are that the actual resolution is the 75hz set in xorg.conf.

I'm pretty sure that I should be just fine, and everything is running nicely (including Compiz), but sometimes I second-guess myself...
