pclinuxos-minime-2010
« on: April 12, 2010, 10:51:37 PM »
Posting from the hard drive install of today's - 13th April -  PCLinuxOS MiniMe 2010 release.

All is well on my low spec machine.

Thank you so much

Hugh

14th April 2010.
The ISO I pulled down was 477 Megabytes. I see from another thread:
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,70659.msg580195.html#msg580195
that the 477 ISO was pulled and a slimmer version of 445 Megabytes is now available.

One glitch here.  Dragon Player and Kaffeine only recognize SR0, my DVD player is SR1.  Can't find my way around KDE4 to where I can have SR1 polled and recognized automatically.

couple of things - google gadgets is defunct due to javascript not being installed and could therefore probably be left off the iso. Im having a few problems with the live mode but the second iso fixed the shutdown problem for me

In both the "Add Locale" and the "Get OpenOffice" scripts, there is a point where the message in the box tells you when to click OK or Cancel, but the actual buttons say "Yes" and "No".

And that's it, cannot think of any other problems.

I have installed in Virtualbox, and after either configuring the graphical server using the Control Centre, or install Guest Additions to get fullscreen - after rebooting all I get is a blank sreen after the initial bootup.

Can not get the apps shortcuts to work. I go in to apps menu edit and set them and they are accepted and saved but just don't work. They did work in Beta 2.  "New" is missing from the Desktop context menu. It was there in Beta 2. I am running installed to hard drive. Was waiting for official release to try another copy.

Please go into synaptic, and see if you can use all mirrors to upgrade.
A simple " reload " will tell you.
With me , 50% don't work, for months already.
However, they are accessible via http....with firefox

2
When trying to download a torrent, all the popup windows (ktorrent) open " under" the Firefox screen. This is plain wrong.

3
just after installing FF, half the links don't work, not even the once to pclos.
I have to use about:config to change some ipv6 setting

4
will find more, just give me some time ;D ;D ;D

1. Not all repos will be available to you depending on your location. Some depend on you being in the same country as the host mirror.
2. Remove the association in KDE System Settings.
3. That is why the option is available in Firefox because some people need to disable ipv6 depending on their ISP.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

Well, this is the case.
I can not access the thai mirror ( only 60 Km away from here ) for the last 2 or 3 months.
Also , in KDE3, I can not access it.

I really would appreciate it if someone could explain
(note: the problem is solved )

--For about 2 months I can not access the thai mirror via synaptic
Today, I could not access the Thai mirror via Firefox or using Google.

Anyway, being an old fart, I can be stubborn as well.
After many hours of googling, I found the numeric address of the Thai mirror
It is 61.7.253.242
In synaptic replacing the part " www.mirror.in.th. (yes, there should be a dot at the end ) with the 61.7.253.242 did connect me to the Thai mirror.
The same for Firefox. Used the numbers and I get through

Any opinions on this ?
Thanks

Same answer we always give... choose a better DNS server; that's the job they are supposed to do.

Posting from KDE Minime live CD, running in live mode from external USB drive on Asus EeePC 710SD.

Question regarding performance:  GUI responsiveness of KDE4 running from CD on this (maximum) 900MHz machine is considerably faster than 2010 beta2 KDE4 hard-drive installation on Acer TravelMate 2203 laptop running at 2800MHz - why?

How is this possible?
