Alltel Cellphone as Internet modem

I have been reading that you can use your cellphone as an internet modem.
I have an LG ax275 cellphone on alltel
So I got a cable off of ebay $4.96

Installed wvdial

setup my.... /etc/wvdial.conf

Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0

FlowControl = Hardware (CRTSCTS)
Dial Command = ATDT
Username = your 10 digit phone number
Password = alltel
went to a konsole and typed in wvdial and pressed enter
and I am now connected to the internet using my cell phone as a modem.

Hi Ramchu.  As a former Alltel customer service representative (yes, I was a hated one) I've spoken to many un-happy people who have done this without remembering to add a Data package to their Alltel account and then received a great big bill at the end of the month.  If you have not already added one do so now and protect yourself!

  Not going to use this sense I already have one of their USB data cards.
I only posted this as an FYI so that people know that it can be done.
Maybe  some can use this method and add the data package to to their
cellphone for $25 to $35 a month instead of $60 a month for the data card.

What kind of d/l and u/l speeds were you getting?

up to 1.4 mbytes per second

can you run the speedtest.net test?
