You can drop the .avi file into DVDStyler and it will produce an ISO or even offer to burn it for you.
I usually produce an ISO and burn with K3b.

Before I tried the other suggestions.  I finally figured out DvdStyler and used it.  It correctly transcoded the file creating a usable iso.  I burned it with k3b and it works as expected.

devede is the easiest app i have found, i hope you can try it again later, with the new version of pclinux

you could have problems with the version installed, creating faulty isos

my first experience with dvd creation was with devede and was very successful, i only had problems with .mov files, no audio but that is very common in every app i have used

anyway, it is nice to have options, if all you had was devede it would be terrible but on linux there is 3 or 4 apps capable of create dvds  :D
