laptop sound won't keep settings
« on: April 11, 2010, 11:22:24 AM »
This is an KDE issue, but I found it on PCLOS 2010 Beta2. I'm sorry if I open this in the wrong section.

I have a Sony Vaio FS315E laptop with the following problem:

KDE does not remember microphone setting, so it works when set up the first time. After a reboot or shutdown, it is necessary to switch to "Front Mic" and back to  "Mic" using the Kmix to make it work.
I attach the lspci output. Please let me know if anything else can be useful.

Thanks anyone for help.

For what it's worth, I had the same problem until I switched mics; now using the one on my web cam. With this one, all settings seem to stay put.

If you have no other mic to test, it may be something you have to live with, as beta testing in now done. If the problem exists in the next release, re-post the problem then. ;)

Trouble is that this laptop doesn't have an internal mic, but only an input so I have to use a plug in mic. I tested two different mic and the problem remains. My webcam doesn't have a mic either.
I guess I have to wait for the final 2010 release to test it again. However, this is something hw related because I tested other laptops and a desktop with different hardware and had no problems. I think it is Intel related.
Thanks for help anyway.

It could be. Intel has had a lot of strange problems lately. On the bright side the next release will have a newer kernel, so the problem may not exist at all with that one. I know I found it annoying to have to keep doing the reset on the mic myself. My cam mic uses the same USB connection as the cam itself, while the other mic had to plug directly into the sound card, and that one was the one with the problem. Maybe try a USB mic?

This is an idea. I have to find one.
