(Solved) OpenOffice Java problem
« on: April 11, 2010, 11:02:58 AM »
PCLinuxOS 2010 beta2 updated from repositories current within the last 24 hours.

In the last few days I'm getting an error message from OpenOffice (v3.2.0.5) when it starts.

"OpenOffice.org requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. The selected JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a new JRE and select it under Options - OpenOffice.org - Java."

Five clicks on this error message later the OpenOffice program will open. This happens in both Writer and Calc. Haven't check beyond that.

I've checked that Java has been selected under the Tools - Java menu. It is.

I've done a total uninstall of java followed by a reinstall and still get the same error. The java version is 1.6.0

Just wondering if others are experiencing the same issue.

This should fix it:  http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,70289.msg576593.html#msg576593

Edit:  Whoops! Just spotted that you have already selected java.  When I had this problem, java was highlighted but not selected - are you sure the same is not true for you?

<hanging head foolishly>
Thanks brianp, highlighted but I missed clicking that little dot in front to select it.
One of the update configurations must have un-checked it and I didn't notice.

I am getting this same error:

"OpenOffice.org requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. The selected JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a new JRE and select it under Options - OpenOffice.org - Java."

but I don't quite understand what you did to fix it. I re-installed java 1.6 and that didn't help, what am I missing? Thanks.

O K, Found this thread, http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,65919.msg535007.html#msg535007,  and that fixed it ! :)

If Firefighters died and went to hell, they would just put it out!

PCLOS GNOME 2010 Openoffice and jre problem:
To cure this, I used System>Administration>Get Openoffice to uninstall Openoffice. I then reinstalled it. This cured the jre problem on three different machines. I then had to restore the Load/Save and Language options.
