Disabling screensaver when using video player?
« on: April 07, 2010, 10:04:04 AM »
Is it possible to disable the screensaver when watching videos? I normally use SMPlayer or Kaffeine and I don't always remember to turn the screensaver off before sitting down to watch something. I've searched the forums but haven't stumbled across anything relevant.

Be nice to disable it while watching youtube as well but I suspect that wish is a pipedream  :D

Thanks.

yes you can, each app has its own option to handle this

in the case of smplayer/options/preferences/general/video tab/disable screensaver

enable that checkbox

each app handles this differently so can't give you a gide that will work for all apps

in kaffeine, i can't find the option in kde4

the screensaver usually should not be enabled while watching videos on youtube but since the last time i used a screensaver was in 1998 can't say anything about it

do you have reason to have a screensaver enabled?  security perhaps?

Thank you, that fixed it.

I'd been through the Options menu in smplayer and missed it . . . sigh. Haven't been using smplayer and am trying to ween myself off of kaffeine. smplayer is growing on me.

Yes, screensaver is keeping undesirables out in a multi-user household  :D

How do I mark topic as "Solved"?

Sorry, I mis-spoke. I'd assumed that setting had fixed it.

The screensaver is still kicking in. I'll be doing a clean install when 2010 goes final. It's probably something in my present settings that is mucking things up. I can live with it until then.

Thanks for the info on marking it solved. I think I'll hold off on that for a bit just in case someone else has a suggestion.
