Dual Booting ... sans the dual boot / noob question
« on: April 05, 2010, 03:49:20 PM »
OK. I am working with an HP tx1000, 120 gig HDD, 4 G's of RAM ... and a lexmark 4 gig ssd (like a PCMCIA card).
I reinstalled Vista on the HDD (leaving 15 gigs free).
I installed PCLOS to the lexmark (as if it were the only hard drive).

So if the card is installed, it boots to PCLOS (basically a USB BOOT).
If the card is not installed, it boots to Vista.

I want to keep it that way for ~ inner geek'ness reasoning ~
Now, my question:
I want to move some folders to the unused portion of my HDD. I partitioned 8 Gig's as /home as that is the main one for my files (right?).
I was wanting to know if it would be worth it to set another partition for ?? and what directory would it be? /usr, /tmp, /var, /opt ... etc.?
And a 2 gig Swap partition.

~ what folders would be better on the HDD?
~ would it benefit for partitions (other than personal stuff) to be on the HDD?
~ would there be any speed benefits?

That kind of stuff..........
Thanks,
Linux NOOB
