KDE 3.5 Workgroup, netowrk, etc.
« on: April 05, 2010, 12:18:51 PM »
My laptop runs KDE 3.5.  I brought it into the office today and was able to get onto the internet by logging into the wireless router.  That's not the problem.  I'd like to get into the netwwork and see the other Windows computers.  I changed the workgroup name in Samba and thought that was all I needed.  For some reason, I can't find those other computers.  Ironically, the windows computers can see my PCLinuxOS laptop.
Toonfully,

Mark

what exactly have you done in looking for other computers?

i use a program called "smb4k" to gain access to remote shares, check it out

after you change the work group, go to pcc services section and restart smb service and wait for a few minutes before trying to access remote shares
.. 3 things are certain in life : death, taxes and software bloat ..
.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

I just went and launched Samba to find the computers (or, in Konqueror "smb://").  Nothing.

Maybe I should look at samba needing to be started in PCC.  That's the possibility.  Thanks.:)
