Connecting Wine to the Internet
« on: April 01, 2010, 12:11:12 AM »
I've just installed Quicken H&B 2009 into Wine.  Quicken seems to work fine except it will not connect to the internet.  How can I get Wine to connect to the internet.  My version of PCLOS is 2009.1 with all the latest updates.  I'll be upgrading to v. 2010 as soon as the post beta version is available.

Thanks in advance for you assistance.

Try using Winetricks to install corefonts, vcrun6, msxml6 and IE6. For more info see the wine application database http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=15038 for Quicken.

That is from the wine site.  My guess would be it is not for IE itself, but to set up the proper registry keys and needed DLL's for an internet connection. A lot of windows programs use the IE engine to access the network.

Winetricks doesn't appear to be in the repositories.  Where can I get it, and how do I use it?

Information on winetricks can be found here: http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks. It is a shell script that runs as your user. I have been using CodeWeavers CrossOver instead of the default wine, so it has been awhile since I have used winetricks.  If you have other working windows programs on you installation of wine you may want to backup you current ~/.wine directory so you can restore it if things break.

OK, I did that but no change.  Any other ideas?
