<Closed> Can not print after update
« on: March 30, 2010, 02:55:03 PM »
Am running Beta2 updated last night.

AMD 2800+ CPU
Kernel 2.6.27.31.tex5
Memory 2 GB
Printer Epson CX4800 MFP

I had been printing before I updated my system. After the update when trying to print anything I would get the following http://findmoore.net/test-print.png and http://findmoore.net/glabels.png  I removed the printer and tried reinstalling it and the results remained the same. I went to another machine With Beta2 installed but that had NOT been updated and the printer work as one would expect. Does any one have any ideas?

This highlighted portion of your post is confusing. They are links to a couple of .png files.

My fully updated 2010.2 still prints fine. I would try a reboot and/or see if restarting cups does the trick. .02

Don't know if this applies to your situation, but on one of his twitter update entries, Texstar mentioned that after a printer package update, a removal and re-install of a printer might be needed.

YouCanToo mentions that he removed and reinstalled the printer.

YouCanToo - is this a locally attached printer or is the printer on a network?

This is a USB locally attached printer.  It was printing just fine before I did the update yesterday!

UPDATE,  just updates the system this morning to the latest and still the problem with printing an entire BLACK page persists. Removing the printer, rebooting and reinstalling the printer makes no changes. The system worked from from the install CD. I have also removed cups and guetinprint and reinstalled both with the same "all black" page print.

I don't know what package could be messing you up.

YouCanToo:

Have you looked for newer drivers for the Epson CX4800 on the avasys site?

O.P. - I just went there and pull down the driver for it. I will try installing it later and report back my findings. I also noticed in another post there were a few others that were experiencing the same problem but with different models of Epson printers.

I have Epson too, just different model- Stylus C90. It never had its own driver, but on PCLOS 2009 worked fine on C68 driver. But is no longer working on 2010 beta2. It prints black page. Any other driver - the same result, drivers higher then C70 just scroll the paper. I tried the driver from http://www.avasys.jp for C90, but didn't help - still prints a black page.

So far I managed to make my printer work on simplified C68 driver. It cuts a little bit from top margin, but otherwise works, although has limited setup possibility of course.

Open Synaptic, remove the gutenprint 5.2.5 drivers and printerdrake. Press reload to get updated file listing from ibiblio.org re-install the gutenprint 5.2.4 drivers and printerdrake then let me know if that fixes your epson printer problem.

No change for me.

I tried to print it directly from CUPS and this is what is said:

Code: [Select]
"/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster failed"
and prints the black page.

I get the same thing. I remember having this error in 2009, but do not remember what was done to correct it.

Ok it is not the updated gutenprint packages. pstoraster comes from the ghostscript packages.
