file managers and timestamps
« on: March 30, 2010, 01:26:22 PM »
KDE bug 55804 addresses timestamp bugs in some file management but does anyone know if this has been resolved in an update for PCLOS 2009 or a way to correct this issue for Konqueror.

Dragging or otherwise moving folders stamps the folder with todays date for "creation date" which is unacceptable.

I need: Date folders created to be kept intact.

Any help appreciated.

Not much help to you I'm afraid, but the issue has been resolved in 2010 B2 (on my system at least)

The more I dig into this the more timestamps seem to be an issue. I just created a new folder on the desktop and creation date is  03/29/2010 at 10:39am rather than today 03/31/2010 at 5:11pm.

At first I thought this might only be an issue when moving files around to other devices or file systems but this is happening when creating a folder in your own hoe account. I can see where this would really a problem if trying to sort through files and or directories where creation, access and mod times are important.

Am I missing something?

Update: discovered that the BIOS date is one day behind (fixed and CMOS battery is new) ) so this explains the wrong creation date, but there are other folders that have been on this lappy for 5 mos. where the creation date is still yesterday and the last accessed date is several days before that!

Update: nope. after fixing BIOS time and date new folder created today on Desktop still shows created date as 03/29/10 . Also, bootinto WinXP on this laptop and folder creation dates all appear to be accurate, even with the wrong BIOS date and time . Something's up.
