« on: March 30, 2010, 04:32:20 AM »
Hi all... im not that technical so i hope i will no sound stupid...
the thing is tat i connect to internet using a router... and i have to dial up everytime i connect using a PPPoE connection.
to do that in KDE i used to configure my wired connection eth0 first and check start on boot and to let users able to manage this connection.
then i ued to set up te DSL usn the PPPoE option, set the user nam and password and uncheck stat on boot but i check theopton to let user manage tis connection.
the when i wanted to connect i plug the cable in and activate eth0 ten wen its connected i righ click the net applet and chose the ppp0 in checked interface option...
so i used t have both eth0 & ppp0 checked... tha wasthe only ay i knew to connect.
now i changed to e-17 and jut installed the Beta version.... i tried the same steps as b4... but when i had both eth0&ppp0 checked i couldnt connect to inernet...
so i tred to keep only the ppp0 checked thats when it wrked and i got connected.
then when i logged out and restarted my laptop itnever gotcnnected to internet anymore... not by only ppp0 checked not by both eth0&ppp0 checked ...i even tried to re configure the network but notin works...

drhadidy,
maybe some details of your router and the type of connection you have from your ISP would help, but to get started .....

Is there some specific reason you are aware of for you to be going through the means of connecting you outlined?

in the usual circumstances the connection details for your ISP are entered in the router and this holds the connection open.
A PC is then connected to the router via eth and is able to access the internet from this connection through the router.

Unless there are other reasons for doing differently, I suggest you set up the internet connection (PPoE) in the router. You should then be able to use eth connection from the PC permanently.

If you need more specific assistance in setting up the router please post back its make and model number.

regards.
