Youtube, what's going on?
« on: March 29, 2010, 10:02:37 AM »
Goodmourning, good afternoon and goodnight to all on the forums. I am wondering if someon could please answer this little question.

I and a few of my fiends have been unable to access youtube videos for a while, some vague referance to either no Javascrypt or a lack of Flash.

This has happend on both windoze and linux maschines runing Firefox.
Some chatter on the net has talked about google converting all video to a closed propiety codec blocking out open source applications from accesing youtube videos.
Is this still the case?
IE is no option as neither I, my linux or windowze buddies like it (nevermind that IE doesn't run in linux).
Ok maybe it is not so little but some help would be greatly appretiated.

I doubt it, some of my fiends on facebook have had the same problem from their homes.

The it guys at the local internet cafe can't even block access to anything if you use linux. It cuts off if you run out of time on windoze or Mac OS, my PCLOS just keeps going.
I would like to try at my fiend's house but he is busy studying for his IT degree.
If I had my own connection I'd just try the new Beta2 but it cost me four hours and forty dollars to download and update the one I have now.
I'd rather send the money to PCLOS for a CD rom of the final when it comes out.

I marked all upgrades, downloaded a little software and then went to youtube after finishing with synaptic.
There were no packages removed during the upgrade. I am going to try with opera next time as well. (though I prefer free opensource I have to admit it is pretty good)

I've read reports of cromium being able to do it but that is to be expected due to google owning youtube and paying for the licence of the codec.

Under Pclos2009 I've never got the remasters to work and I burned on the slowest speed I could.
So I did not bother with that.
I wish I could have ported over my old theme it was all Matrix like.

I did update two weeks ago, amd I notice that some programs refused to download or install. Is this because you are now on the second beta or were the rpms incompleatly uploaded?
I'll actually get of my butt and boot up the eee and see what is installed.

I am using the second beta so i do not know if the first beta will upgrade or not,on both beta's java is not installed by default,i am thinking along the lines you have a flash plugin for firefox problem and that is stopping youtube vids from playing.
