Upgrading from Firefox 3.6 to 3.6.2
« on: March 24, 2010, 10:40:39 PM »
I have attempted to upgrade my Firefox browser from 3.6 to 3.6.2.  Now, it doesn't load. This was executed through the Synaptic Package Manager.  I tick on the task bar icon and it doesn't launch.  Also updated in the process was the XUL runner.  I had tried uninstalling/installing and rebooting a few times.  It doesn't work.  Is this a glitch?  The browser was working well beforehand. What gives?  Thank you in advance for any answers.

Did you update Firefox only, or did you do a full update?

First, it is always recommended to do full updates, not partial ones. Also, I've read in the forums that there was a glitch when FF was first updated to 3.6.2 (something to do with locales, if I understand correctly) but it was corrected later on.

To see if you have any errors, open a console and launch Firefox from there. Post any errors received here.
If launching "firefox" from the console doesn't do anything, try launching "firefox-3.6.2". If this works, then the problem is just that the icon is pointing to the wrong executable; you can just edit the task bar icon properties and correct it.

Hope this helps.
I was once a sinner, but I have seen the light. Linux saved me!

I did the partial update, and realised that was an error on my behalf.  Thank you very much for reminding me to conduct a full update, TheGhost.  After doing this properly as you recommended, my Firefox is now updated to 3.6.2.  Thank you again.
