GNOME - a Q (SOLVED)
« on: March 24, 2010, 01:18:07 PM »
Is there a way to shift the panel to the bottom of the screen? The default is at the top.

Edit. Also, In KDE "single mouse click" is available. Can't find it in GNOME. Is it possible?

yes you can!

on the panel you want to move right click/preferences

you can set the position, it says top by default

if you move it to the bottom if i remember correctly it will be positioned under the panel that is already there or you can remove that panel or even move it to the top

about the right click, gnome has a control center, in the system menu/preferences/mouse you can find it, i can't find the exact function you mention or maybe i don't understand the options given

Thanks T6 but can't find the way you describe and there doesn't appear to be a "single click" option either. Clicked everywhere for the last hour or so and no joy.

Just done it! Holding down the Alt key and dragging down the panel. One click mouse doesn't appear to be there.

I know but I couldn't do it your suggested way.  ;D Pity that the one click option is not in GNOME. I am beginning to like it...still exploring though. No plasmoids!  :D

Got it. What happened is that I missed going into Properties following your path/instruction
"on the panel you want to move right click/preferences"  :-[ Many thanks for your help.

ok  :)

the mouse, maybe someone in the gnome forum could have the information

http://www.linuxgator.org/forums/

in general i tried the single click on windows and couldn't abandon the double click action and had problems, tried it again in linux and same luck, i find the double click very useful specially when you are teaching someone to use a pc

I'll look into it, thanks. I also tried many moons ago the single click mouse and couldn't adjust to it. But in the last year or so I tried it again, this time with PCL, and love it. My index finger feels better!  ;D

Finally found the "single click" mouse. This is the path: System>Preferences>File Management>Behaviour. Voila.

good news!

anyway, don't forget that gnome is near to a big change, kde4 style

from what i have seen lots of menus will change but other things will remain the same so you could consider not to configure much things on your desktop because you might need to start from clean soon

gnome 3 is a little far yet and pclinux will not adopt it immediately, same as with kde3 and kde4

it took almost 2 years to go from kde3 to kde4, in gnome will be a similar process

Thanks for the advice! I am only playing with GNOME, nothing else to do with "boring" KDE at the moment. ;D My next real challenge is the upcoming new release, final that is.
