E17 Compiz
« on: March 24, 2010, 06:35:36 AM »
Hi all,

I have just used E17 for the first time, installed to ram.

I have two questions,

How do you start compiz?
How do you change the  buttons style?

I was attracted to E17 after seeing one of Agusts wallpaper screens some time back, but old machine did not have enough graphic power to do them justice so i never really got started.
I am hoping this machine will be ok but am at a loss on how to get started.

J.

Well Jankers , I know, compiz does not work on E17, there hack "Ecomorph" that makes the effects of Compiz.

Ecomorph:

If I can explain (Topic , Tips and Tricks)  how to change the buttons by others, e17 can change almost everything. ;D

Greetings:

There is also Cairo in the repository.  Look for Cairo Compositing Manager.  Once installed just click it in the menu under configurations and you will have (more or less) 3d.

Well, E17 has basic compositing. Just go to settings panel, Advanced tab. There you'll find enable composite. It's not Compiz, keep that in mind. It's just a basic support. Maybe insert bling or fire module to get some bling :)

Also, keep in mind that whole idea behind E is to be light and to do effects without using your graphic card so it's free to do something more fun :)

While we are on subject, maybe a quick question for Texstar if he's around. Are there any plans for including ecomorph in pclos in near, not-so-near or supergalafragalistic future? It's fairly stable, and it can be configured like a regular e17 module so people can turn compiz on or off on the fly.

I agree , ecomorph is excelloent with nearly no overhead - tested on other distros and loved it - should be easy to package , plus e17 is going stable real soon - maybe you should request it in package suggest.

Agree, agree :)

+ it's sweet showcase. E is really a looker and on top of that all Compiz rotating and floating goodness. And then when they are amazed, fire up top and whole system is using 2-3% CPU and 150-160MB of RAM. Nice :)

Yes , Ecomorph works fine!!! , although not think it is so easy to attach to this version of e17.
But here it seems like magic to make E17, you never know. ;D.

Many thanks folk.

I have been using Compiz as a 'standard' to see how well this new mobo performs, hence the question.
I did notice Cairo in the repositories and looked for Ecomorph whilst i was there.

I will certainly look in the Hints and Tips section Agust, it's not a place i frequent very often as my technical abilities are
mostly limited to shooting off in the wrong direction :)

I will try to find some space for a disk install and give it a more thorough try-out incorporating your suggestions, the heads up will be
very useful, especially now i know to avoid the compiz route.
