Wow, such a large surge of folks popped in!
Hey guys, I been hammering this idea around in my head. But, I feel uneasy bringing it up as I hate to bring upon heavy artillery fire. But I did already bring it up to Sproggy. but, I figured maybe kick it around to see what you guys of the dev group think.
Has anyone ever considered an installation option in the full CD that allows the user 2 choices?
1)
Full Install: The usual installation that loads up everything. A good option for a machine w/o internet. But, a longer installation time.
2)
Core Install: Installs the basic necessities and DE. Users still has to use Synaptic to get everything he/she needs. But, it still cuts out all the excess stuff more advanced users may not desire. as well as a faster install.
Perhaps even a 3rd option...
3)
Pro Install: As the name suggest. Its meant more for users that know everything they want right off the CD. Thus letting them pick each thing. This could make for a faster install of only the exact items the user wants. This option may even just be a better alternative to #2.
I remember Mandriva was like that. Not sure about now. Haven't touched it in 5yrs. But to be frank. Even though I seen it in other distros. It just never WORKED. As I'd always get slammed with a full install each time.
But, this is just a ball Im tossing in to see how it gets kicked around.
