gpodder: Cannot set alternative download folder
« on: March 21, 2010, 04:01:24 AM »
I've been using gpodder across several different distros and such, and have a separate download folder set up in one of my storage drives. I'm usually able to go into the settings and manually change the download folder to where it should go, but the damn setting appears greyed out, and I'm unable to do anything with it. I hunted down the config file, and manually set the correct folder, but it still insists on downloading to the default /home/username/gpodder-downloads folder. Is this a bug? What can be done? It's more an annoyance than anything else, but I should be able to do this, and as i said, even changing then default folder in the config file did nothing. Why?
There is no shame in saying "I don't know".

Has your ext drive been mounted?

Have you tried opening/editing gpodder.conf with ROOT permissions?

Just saw this on gpodders web site as part of their FAQ

How do I change the download directory from the default location and name to a custom named directory and location?
   1. Close gPodder
   2. Move the download directory to the new destination
   3. Change the "download_dir" setting in ~/.config/gpodder/gpodder.conf
   4. Restart gPodder

It should work from the GUI, but currently doesn't. This is probably a bug in Python. We're working on the issue, see bug:8.http://bugs.gpodder.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8

Yeah, as I said, the gui part is greyed out, not alowing me to do it there, but even editing the config file (located where you point out) makes no difference, which is why i'm so damn puzzled. It should NOT be like this. Any further suggestions?

Just to double check, did you try opening/editing gpodder.conf with ROOT permissions?

No, it should not be necessary, it was situated in my home folder, and saved with no probs. It has never been necessary to edit as root, no reason it should now.
