Configuration e17PClinuxOS
« on: March 20, 2010, 11:10:39 AM »
In this new topic, try to go so teaching the basic setup for a desktop e17.

The first thing we do is load the emodules (gadgets).
As you can see in the image on the left are the emodules available, the emodules right we already have available, simply put the emodules they need from the left to right.

The configuration of emodules (Appearance) "Bling" Transparencies , "DropShadow" Shadows on the window ,  "Flame" Fire effect in the taskbar , "Penguins" Penguins on your desktop , "Rain" Nice effect of water droplets on your desktop , "Snow" Snowing on your desktop , is from:
Main Menu > Settings > Conf.Settings , Tab Appearance.

Now we have loaded emodules we can put it wherever we want.(Look here)

For the configuration of these gadgets, right click mouse.

Now for the configuration of the Ibar and Drawer (application launcher)
Main Menu > Settings > Conf Settings > Applications , tab  Ibar applications.

As in the previous explanation, put on the right side and the applications that need in the order they want, tab apply.
Stay that way.

The applications that we have configured for the Ibar, we are also valid for the emodule Drawer.

Configuration Drawer , There are two options, right click mouse and choose the one they like.

Tomorrow I will explain the configuration of the Shelf, excuse my English.

Greetings and enjoy e17PCLInuxOS!!!!!!: ;)

Suggestions:

To make e17 remember the size of the windows (Exp:Window Settings Panel) as we want, we need this.
Right click the mouse on the small icon at the top left of the bar.

To have united the mouse pointer in all the applications we selected (Use cursor X)

To optimize active and inactive windows of the beta1 theme we have selected the mode (Look Here).

Configutation bar Shelf.

As we see in the image, we create a new bar.
Menu> Settings> Shelf , tab Add , Configure.

Now Advanced tab.
from this window, you can set your bar as they please.

When we have the bar that we like, tab assign content.
As always available applications left, right pass the applications they want for the toolbar.

In the end they must be this way.

Always remember to click Apply tab for all configurations. ;)

Fonts

To change fonts, go to Settings/Settings Panel:

Double click on Fonts. In a new window choose font and also the size. For global settings enable "Enable Custom Font Classes". Here's an example for Liberation Sans:

To use "Hinting" click Advanced button and than enable "Automatic":

If you want to use different fonts for different app:
Still in "Font Settings"-example for Filemanager:
Click on FileManager [on the left side], than "Icon", choose font/Apply and it will change your Filemanager's icons font:

Liberation Sans

DejaVu Serif

etc,etc.....

Filemanager/Icon size/Background

Background:
Open Menu/Places/Home
Right click/View mode/Set background

Icons:
Open Menu/Places/Home
Right click/View mode/Icon Size

right click, options toolbar , If you check the plane , is for total transparency toolbar.
If you check "automatically move the content" (For in little space have many applications) is also advisable to have marked the option" resize "

Settings Panel > Appearance , Start ,  uncheck "Show screen at startup".

Start Up or Init Splash
To install simply , Open thunar or Nautilus , view hidden files , locate folder .e > e > themes , copy and paste the downloaded file , now , Menu > Options > Configuration Panel > Aplications , Start , select the theme and apply.

This one is to explain how to add little bling on your e17-pclos desktop.

1.Choose Main Menu/Enlightenment/Modules

2.On the left side are the Modules that are available but not loaded in your system. On the right are loaded ones. First, unload Dropshadow (click on it, then hit Unload Module button). On the left choose Bling (click on it, then hit Load Module button). Close.

3.Choose Main Menu/Enlightenment/Settings Panel

4.Choose first tab (Appearance), scroll down and choose Bling module. Click, then in the window that appears click Advance button. You will be presented with this window where you can fine tune the effects.

I preffer big shadows (push the Shadow Size slider to 22), and little faster Fade In/Out so push the Fade in Speed/Fade Out Speed to 50/40.

Apply.
Close.

Experiment with the settings, there are several other fun modules you can use in the same way.

Have fun!

This one is for people who like to control their system start-up.

In E17 there is a simple way to add program to start-up. You just need to add the programs shortcut in a module that is intended to run it when you turn on your computer.

Well, trouble is if you have more than a few programs that needs to be started with the system. First trouble is to hunt the icon (when your system ages and number of programs goes up, this is harder than one could think). Second is, what if E didn't read any of your programs, that is, there are no default shortcuts. You should first create them by hand and load... bla, bla, bla. To much of clicking. This is linux, there shouldn't be that much of hassle anyway.

Sweet trick that I've been using for years (note that you could use this kind of action with additional tweaks in any DE or window manager). It's rather simple.

1.Go to your home directory and create file. Lets call it startup.sh
2.Make it executable. (we sad no clicking so open terminal and type: chmod +x /home/your_user_name/startup.sh)
3.Open the file with any txt editor and paste the following example:

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

#!/bin/sh

    gnome-volume-manager &
    opera -notrayicon &
    net-applet &

# This is just an example, tweak it as you like it. I preffer gnome volume over e17
# volume manager so the first command, and I like to start Opera right away, and no
# tray icon for browsers, thank you very much. At the end, i just like pclos network
# applet.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

4.Save the file.
5.Go to Main Menu/Settings/Settings Panel. Choose Apps/New Application
6.Now give name, comment and a shiny icon to your new shortcut. The important part is "Executable" field where you need to set the path to startup.sh script that you made (it should be /home/your_user_name/startup.sh).

Apply.
Close.

7.At the end, just go back to Startup Applications, find the new shortcut you created and add it to startup and finito. You now have control your startup by adding or removing program commands in the startup.sh script.

This is the old E way of doing this but I still find it really easy.

Have Fun!

To take a screenshot using e17-supplied tools:

Left-click desktop, go to Settings > Modules. In the left pane, under the Shelf section, find and click on Screenshot module. Then click the big Load Module button at the bottom. Close the window. You can now add it to a shelf by right-clicking the shelf and selecting Set Shelf Contents. In the left pane, find and click on Screenshot module, then click Add Gadget button. To add the module to the desktop, left-click on the desktop, then select Settings > Gadgets. In the Gadgets Manager window, find Screenshot, click it, then click the Add Gadget button. It may end up in unpredictable places on your desktop. No problem. Right-click the Screenshot gadget on the desktop, select Begin move/resize this gadget, then drag it where you want it, and resize it if you want. To make it "stick", right-click on the Screenshot gadget again.
