Uggla,
From Wikipedia:
"A master boot record (MBR), or partition sector, is the 512-byte boot sector that is the first sector ("LBA Sector 0") of a partitioned data storage device ..."

I've always been confused as to which is better, but I do know that during install, you are asked if you want to install Grub to MBR or you can chose a partition (sda or hda, etc.).

If it jams, force it.... if it breaks, ... it needed to be replaced anyway!!

Nope, no such option! You can choose drive but that's all.

I believe sda is drive 1 if you use sata type drives, or hda is drive 1 if you use pata type drives..

Perhaps the beta installer limits our choices.

Sorry if I haven't helped.  Perhaps one of the more experienced member here can guide you.

Good Luck,

Your choices on where to install grub are not limited with the Beta installer. I got 37 choices, 1 for each hard drive and 1 for each partition. If you choose to install to a partition, you still need another bootloader in the MBR to either chainload to the new grub in the partitions boot sector, or you need a full boot stanza for the new installation in the MBR bootloader's configuration file.

My partitions didn't show up. I think it was caused by my custom partitioning. When I instead, during the install, set PCLOS to use entire drive they showed up. Not sure if it's a bug.

Not a bug, you just missed it. Trust me it's there.  ;)
