drhadidy,
please do a reboot first. Then, as explained in the addlocale post I pointed out earlier, you will always have only one (1) system language and this will be the language you added last to your system with addlocale. This system language will appear at the login screen. In e17, the applications and system tools will be in the system language. The language switch in e17 only refers to the menu entries. Here, you may apply any language to the menu entries which
a) is already installed in the system, and
b) only if this language is supported by e17. For example, there is no arabic translation available for the menu entries in e17 and for this reason you can not have the e17 menu entries showing up in Arabic. BUT all applications which have arabic translations will nevertheless be displayed in Arabic if the system language is set to Arabic. And, just a reminder, addlocale will not change the language in OpenOffice as this is a separate application. Use getopenoffice to add a new language to OpenOffice.

For the keyboard layout switch: an equivalent to the KDE keyboard switcher might be gnome-keyboard-properties (not sure, I don't know much about Gnome) or just use KDE if the keyboard-switch is important  ;)

hope this helps,
-p.

dear pinoc...
now after much trying and going around i found out how to switch the keyboard layouts...
its from main menu--applications--system--configuration--configure your desktop
now i have the language icon in the system tray and i can switch between the languages:-)
but the problem now is that i have some applications and menus in english...some in arabic( like thunderbird for example is fully arabised!!)
and some in russian!!!!!( for example the login screen and the whole configure your desktop thing and all menus and buttons of dolphin!!! )
i want now to go back with all to just the plain english interface.... i dont know what to do???
can i remove the locales???
another thing... now when i try to open the PCC or synaptic i get the following error message as in the attached foto...what can i do??

to return to the default English setup, run addlocale and keep the default settings, then reboot and all should be in English.
And which system (2009 or the new 2010beta) and desktop environment do you use now? KDE, e17, or something else?

For the Synaptic/PCC problem: Please first reset to the default English (with addlocale), then reboot and check if Synaptic still shows this error and does not start. In this case open a konsole and enter:
Code: [Select]
su -c synaptic in order to get more information about the source of this error.
regards,
-p.

good to hear you got the system back to English  ;)
Sometimes it can happen that pcc or synaptic don't start from their icons or from the menu in the user account. But they should do this after you reboot. Maybe there is something else wrong then. You can always start any application form the command-line (konsole), for example to open PCC simply enter the command:
Code: [Select]
pcc   which will then ask for your root password to continue, or to open it directly with root privileges enter:
Code: [Select]
su -c pcc
good luck,
-p.

I really do not understand, e17 does not interfere at all in the internet connectivity options, should connect automatically.
For applications that want to starting.

Main Menu > Preferences > Option Panel > Applications , tab Start Applications , select from the left the application and put it right, apply.

first i install LXDE...then make a full update from synaptic
(by the way i changed the repos from KDE to KDE4.... is that rite or i had to update KDE first then KDE4??) ::) ???
then ill install task-enlightenment (and agust themes) from synaptic and log into it.
i will have a clean start like that then we will see... 8) ;) ::)

Yes!! true , there are things that do not work properly , but it is a very good option for E17.

u guys mean to install the new beta1 then E-17 from it? or just the beta1 LXDE?is it a substitute for the E-17?
well to be honest i can wait anyhow for the final release... anyhow ill get my new laptop soon so now im just experimenting to get to know E-17 well and have a clean fine install on the new machine:-)
now i have a couple of qs about my install...
1- again when i try to launch pcc, synaptic or NTFS config tool from icons or main menu i get the error message"invalid call to subprocess"... have to launch them from terminal...any idea what that might be?? is that some sort of a bug?? can it be reported?
2- since i had this install i couldnt make any of the animated backgrounds to work... they worked in the previous install...
they r .edj files i copied them in the /.e/e/backgrounds folder as b4.... the images backgrounds work fine though!!
is there anything i have to install??
3- i used to use thunderbird as mail client and have all my accounts and mails on it...im thinking to give sylpheed a try... looks very light and sufficient... is there a way to import the settings( account settings and saved e-mails ) from thunderbird to it or not?
4- i used mozilla coz of 2 things... the "download helper" for downloading and converting the youtube videos and such stuff... and the "pdf it" extension.... but i like very much how light and fast epipheny  and midori are.... is there any other way to do those things without using mozilla???
thx guys
Hope that one day ill be able to help as much as I'm being helped now...

hi,

LXDE is an alternative light-weight desktop environment like e17, which looks a bit more like KDE. As with any desktop environment in PCLinuxOS you can add any other desktop environment (e17, Xfce, Gnome, KDE, fluxbox, etc) at any time by installing the corresponding "task-xx" package in Synaptic. It may be a good idea to start with a fresh install of one of the new 2010 beta releases, they are pretty stable and you will avoid having to update lot's of packages if you started with a previous 2009 iso. If the beta is not an option then you may as well wait for the final release of 2010 which will come out when it is ready, well within the next weeks  ;D
