Acer Aspire heats up and quits after 2010 beta1 install
« on: March 15, 2010, 10:57:19 PM »
Does anyone else have this problem, it appears to heat up and totaly shuts off on it's own? I read somewhere that the Intel chipset may be the issue.

Continue to have problems with heating up and shutting down. I dual boot with Vista and noticeably hear the fan being quieter.
Has anyone had success adjusting fan speed within linux?

I found a link that showed me how to resolve this. http://beginlinux.com/desktop_training/newbie/temp-and-cpu-frequency-control

Well the above note was not exactly accurate. I was able to get the IM_Sensors operating with the link though. What did get the fans going properly was installing apmd "advanced power management" & deleting powersave.

What I have found over time is that it is hit or miss whether the fans start or not. So if anybody has found a way to have some control over the fans I would be interested. This limits my ability to use PCLinux on this laptop.
