Strange videoproblem..
« on: March 15, 2010, 05:32:58 PM »
Hi

If I do a new installation of PCLinuxOS 2009.2 I can watch this site without any problems.
http://wwitv.com/tv_channels/2077.htm
When I then make a full update I can only hear the sound but no picture - only a gray area where the picture should have been.
If I then start the terminal and issue firefox followed by the above link a new instance appears - and this time with both video and sound. The first instance continues but only with the sound a little out of sync with the last one. Now I can close the first one and let the last one proceed with the picture and sound.
This is most strange to me! What is happening? Why do I have to issue another instance which descibed above to get the video running?

I don't know what's going on OW  everything on that sight that I tried here works fine.  Give 2010  Beta 1 a try that worked fine here also.

Hi

Tnx fer reply. I am a ham too. Since 1968. My call is oz4wh and many years ago I also held the call ox3wh.
And for six consecutive months in 1985 and 1986 I also was MARS operator on XP1AB in 1001st information system squadron on U.S.Airforce Base Sondrestrom Greenland.

I have already tried out the beta 2010. And I had to change the screen resolution to 16bit I could not use 24 bit and furthermore when I started I was led to a terminal and had to alter the parameters for video card by running XFdrake.
Precisely same happened when I tried Mandriva afterwards!
Also the nvidia logo which used to come in 2009.2 did not appear in 2010 beta. So I decided to wait for the final release. But I guess that someone can explain this mystery for me.
Tnx fer tryin to help.

Hi

I have installed 2010 beta 2 on my Compaq Presario 6000 which have 2Gb ram and NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX to GeForce 4. This time I was led directly to the desktop with 24 bit colors, which I could not in the 2010 beta 1. During boot process the nvidia logo
did not show up which it did in the 2009.2 edition. But I still can not see http://wwitv.com/tv_channels/2077.htm . There is sound, but no picture. But if I then in a terminal, write firefox followed by:
http://wwitv.com/tv_channels/2077
- a new instance of firefox starts and this time with both video and sound. Then I close the first instance of firefox because the sound is out of sync with the second instance.
This is odd..

Well OW don't know what happened since the other day but today when I try to access it I get a complete freeze up of the Beta 2 2010 system.  total freeze up will report it on another thread to make sure the devs see it.. had to do a hard reboot to get out of it , I supposing it's related to flash in someway but not sure.

Hi

I have not experienced Your problem. But the things I described also applies when I use Seamonkey or Opera.
To see, I have to start a second instance of the browser in a terminal followed by the link and then close the first instance which only have sound.  :o Jeeves .. that is weird!  ???

Hi

I just burned the Gnome 2010 beta 1 edition. I experienced the same thing at boot as I did with the beta 1 of PCLinuxOS 2010 kde edition. I was not led to the desktop but had to adjust the parameters for the video, and could not use the 24 bit but only the 16 bit to get the X server running. This is not the case for the 2010 beta 2 of the PCL kde edition. But in Gnome 2010 beta 1 I can use the link in the post below and it shows video fine. Maybe in the next Gnome edition I can go to 24 bit also. I see the dot in the end but that is not causing trouble with this Gnome edition. It would be very interesting what difference in the code that causes these unintended trouble. - I prefer to use the danish repository KLID for updating and download and also the new repo test program measures that this is the fastest one for me to use.

PCLOS beta2 is installed on my notebook, and fully upgraded
and I can play the link you gave us: no problems in firefox in my case...

I don't know which packages I already have installed and/or upgraded, but maybe do a full upgrade (or did you do that already?)

Hi

Yes I did. But now I have installed beta 1 of the Gnome edition, updated it fully and localized it. And it works fine after that. But when I booted from the live/install cd the only thing that was marked red and failed was at:

Hardware is initialized using a guess method [Failed]

So i could only use 16 bit. Same thing in KDE beta 1 but in the beta 2 it was ok.

I am rolling along. Thanks for reply.

PCLOS Beta 2 kde has an updated kernel. You can probably add nopat to you grub line in Gnome beta 1 to accomplish the same.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

Hi

Thank You very much for reply. I installed kernel 2.6.32.10-pclos2.bfs and I can use 24 bit color.
