Restoring Grub to the MBR
« on: March 14, 2010, 12:33:58 PM »
I made the mistake of installing PCLOS 2010 (including GRUB on the MBR and menu.lst on hda5) prior to Win-XP and, of course, the latter overwrote the MBR so that only XP is bootable. Is there any way  of restoring Grub to the MBR other than re-installing PCLOS? Have tried to achieve this via the live-CD, but it failed   :-\ . Thanks.

If you are in 2010 Beta 1, did you look at PC/More Applications/Configuration/ReDoMBR.
2009 has one too, but not sure where it is.

I can't say for sure it's what you need, but it's there.

If it jams, force it.... if it breaks, ... it needed to be replaced anyway!!

Yes it can be done from liveCD .........  either using the redoMbr utility or from the command line.
There are quite a number of threads & posts dealing with this on the forum   ;)
