install problems from livecd
« on: March 12, 2010, 07:45:04 AM »
Hi all
Not sure if this should be here or in livecd and remastering. ???

I have started having a problem with the live cd/dvd's I make.
I was trying KDE4 for a while but was put off because the taskbar kept kept disappearing into the back of beyond so i thought a return to KDE3 would be the best, then I could install KDE4 along side KDE3 so I could dip in and out and try to get to grips with KDE4.
I don't think that KDE4 is the cause of this problem though.

On trying to install KDE3 from my live DVD i get the following error message:-

    An error occurred
    Can't locate Filesys/Df.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/libDrakX /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl         /5.10.1/i386-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.1 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.10.1/i386-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.10.1 /usr/lib/perl5/5.10.1/i386-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/5.10.1 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.10.0 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.10.0/i386-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.7 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl .).out to test it.

Checking why this is happening I discover that this error occurs five times, and that turns out to be the number of FAT32 partitions I have. If I ignore the errors and continue with the install on completion I find that the Fat 32 partitions are minus the drive icons but the drive text is there, but I cannot access these drives.

For most of this week i have been doing a clean install using 2009-2 livecd in the hope that would solve the problem, but on making and testing my livecd it comes up with the same errors.

Hope this makes sense to someone ;D
Any one have any solutions?
Thanks in anticipation.

Copy of fstab not a great deal in it, and fdisk -l included in case they help

Regards
Tom W

I also cannot install or run from the LiveCD or USB.  I know they work because I have not had any trouble on my netbook.  I know it's an old machine, but it seems others here have had some luck.  I've been trying in the evenings since the Beta came out, and I feel like I am missing the fun.  I even upgraded the RAM from 256mb to 1280.  Still no luck.  It runs thru the verbose startup fine, but then when you would expect a splash screen, it asks for username login and password.  If I use "root" and "root", it logs in and then nothing happens.  I'm starting to think it has something to do with my old 64 mb Nvidia card, but it is confusing, since I am currently running 2009 w/KDE 4.3.  I guess I'll just either wait for the final and see if it works or wait for a lighter DE for this machine.
